State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.
My name is Holly Jefferson. I’m the owner of Breakaway Bullies, located in May’s Landing, New Jersey.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
I will be breeding American Bullies. I have always loved any Bully or Mastiff Breed. They look so mean and tough, but are really so sweet and loveable. That’s what keeps the outsiders out, and the insiders wanting to stay in.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
My dogs eat 4health Dog Food with raw meat, coconut oil, tumeric, dash of black pepper, goat milk, kefir, fish oil, and blueberries. The pups get cottage cheese added and the big guys get a raw egg with shell added.
What is your favorite bloodline?
That’s hard to answer. Of course I love the bloodlines my dogs have which are Miagi, Bullseye, and Aceline. I would love to add in some Louis V.
Do you currently show, any of your dogs?
I do not currently show any of my dogs. I would love to get into it. That would be a big accomplishment for me to get into that show ring. I need a good mentor. Any takers?
What advice does Breakaway Bullies have for any upcoming breeders?
Educate yourself before you do anything. Remember anyone that owns one of your pups is a representation of yourself. Be selective in who you deal with. Don’t look down on anyone, and be there to guide someone when they have questions.
What do you think, is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
The most difficult thing people in the bully game need to overcome, is thinking they need to be better and do better than the next person.
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
They can overcome this by realizing that no one else matters. Be a good person. Be a reputable breeder. Treat people with respect, and make a good name for yourself.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
I met Steve Peplowski from Buckshot Bullys over 12 years ago when he was breeding Neopolitan Mastiffs. I owned one myself, and happened to drive by his house and notice his dogs. Upon stopping and knocking on his door, we talked for awhile about the breed.
That is not a breed you commonly find in our area. He’s been breeding for over 30 yrs and has been into the American Bullies for quite some time now. Come to find out, he owns Jersey Boy, the Grandfather to my boy Capone. Steve’s a good guy.
Also, Justine and Dylan from Bullies Canada, where I got my boy Tobias from, are great people. They are always there for me when I have any questions. They care about their productions well after they have left them. That’s what a good, reputable breeder should do.
Tell us about one of Breakaway Bullies main goals for the year 2018.
Well, 2018 is almost over. So for the rest of the year I hope to do some networking with other like minded breeders and start to stud out my boys. For 2019 my goal is to get my foundation female. Doing a lot of research to make sure she has all of the qualities I need to add.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
I would hope in 10 years there would be less drama. I also hope people will breed with the health of the dogs in mind. Let’s create and breed dogs with less health issues.
What separates Breakaway Bullies from the competition?
What separates me is that I don’t consider myself a kennel. I’m just a woman with a love for dogs. All of my dogs sleep in my bedroom. Yes all 5 of them. I’m not concerned about what others are doing. I’m raising and breeding healthy dogs with good temperaments. They will make great family pets and be sold to selective homes. That’s all that matters.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
I love kayaking, ATV riding, and fishing. Really I’m down to do anything outdoors.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
I think Bully Girl Magazine is a great resource for all Bully Lovers. I am completely flattered to be asked to do an interview for you guys.
