State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.
My name is Darnell Jackson, founder of Crayola Kennels (@crayolakennels). You can find us in Oakland, CA.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
I specialize in French & English Bulldogs. I have always had a love for the bulldog breed. They have vibrant personalities, and are full of life. Many people looked at them as designer dogs where I’m from, so I made it my mission to obtain one.
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
One of the main characteristics of a responsible breeder is making sure your dogs are healthy. Don’t be quick to follow hype at the cost of your dogs health. I see people breed unhealthy dogs all the time, and it’s very unfortunate to see these dysfunctional dogs struggling to do simple tasks, like running.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
I keep my dogs on a full raw diet provided by @rawfoodrawdog, here in the Bay Area.
What is your favorite bloodline?
My favorite bloodline at the moment is Klauz over at Bradie and the Bullies (@bradieandthebullies). I love everything they produce over there. I current have something in the works with them.
Does Crayola Kennels currently show any dogs?
I don’t show my dogs at the moment. When I step into the arena I want to make sure my dogs are show stoppers.
What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?
My advice is invest in what you want. Nothing comes cheap in this field. Don’t blow money on mutts for a quick profit. Do your research and get your dogs tested to make sure you are producing healthy dogs. It’ll save you a lot more long term.
What do you think, is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
The most difficult thing “I” had to overcome is that mistakes will be made. It’s all a learning process. I now embrace it with open arms.
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
Patience is the only way to overcome this. Do not rush. Take your time and do your research.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
I look up to Bradie and the Bullies (@bradieandthebullies), because I love their hustle mentality. He has branded himself and his dogs and now it’s showing. I love seeing my Africans become successful, so that’s amazing to see a brother winning off something I love.
Tell us about one of Crayola Kennels main goals for the year 2019.
My main goal for 2019 is to have a successful breeding with both my Frenchie “De Blanco” and English Bulldog “Nyla”.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
In 10 years I would want there to be less hate, along with people being more informative. I see a lot of people bashing others. Instead of hating, inform people so you have less “BS” dogs. Communication is key. I feel like a lot of people lack knowledge because there are not many people willing to give knowledge.
What separates Crayola Kennels from the competition?
What separates my kennel from the rest is my patience. I’m not in a rush to throw out just any dog. When I step out you’ll feel like you have a one of a kind, not a look a like. On top of that, you’ll be receiving a healthy mobile dog. Not just a deformed liability.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
My other main hobby is photography. I’m a photography major out of San a Francisco State College.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
I love Bully Girl Magazine. Not only is it black owned, but it’s all about the bully world. What more can you ask for in a magazine?
