Tell our readers a little bit about yourself.
Hello my name is Christopher “Mr. DKK” Smith, founder of Deep Kountry Kennels, located in the great diamond state of South Carolina.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
I breed the XL bully. I’ve always owned a Pit Bull’s growing up, but they were not like the ones I currently own now. So I’ve always been a fan of the breed. What really inspired me to get involved with the breed is improving the structure, health, and physicality of the breed.
I also love educating people on the breed. People stereotype this particular breed because of the background of the Pit Bull. So I want to be one of the many people to show that this breed can co-exist with people, as long as the pet is trained the right way.
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
In my opinion a responsible breeder does their research, has a passion for what they’re doing, and is available to answer questions and give information about the breed. A responsible breeder makes sure the dog they are selling goes to a good home and stays in touch with the dog owners to see how the dog is doing. Last but not least, a responsible breeder is a breeder that’s not all about money.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
Here at Deep Kountry Kennels, my dogs are mainly on 90% R.A.W and 10 % kibble. I use is Grain free kibble brands such as Diamond, Victor, or Crave dog food.
What is your favorite bloodline?
I don’t have a favorite bloodline. However, there are a few bloodlines that I admire. In the future, one of Deep Kountry Kennels goals is to create our own bloodline. Be on the lookout for that!
Do you currently show any of your dogs?
At this present time my dogs do not participate in any shows, even though I currently produce good quality dogs. One of my many goals is to produce the perfect show dog.
What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?
My advice for upcoming breeders is to do their research. Decide the route you want to take, set a goal, and write out a plan that will help you reach your goals. Don’t take short cuts. If you make a mistake, don’t give up! Put your pride aside, stay humble and respectful. Enjoy what you’re doing by making the breed better.
What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
I think the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome is SELF!
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
Many people in this bully game change who they are and they loose focus of why they got into the game. Be yourself, and your time will come. Like I said, in my answer to the question before, put pride aside and stay humble. Sit back and learn from the O.G’s. Don’t try to be an O.G before your time or you’ll fail.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
I look up to the O.G’s of the bully game, it don’t matter what type of breed. Without their knowledge and fight to keep the breed going, the breed would go extinct.
Tell us about one of Deep Kountry Kennels main goals for the year 2019.
One of my main goals for the year 2019 is to do two breedings. I have already accomplish one breeding this year, so I have one more breeding to go which will be an awesome production for my kennel.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
Ten years from now I would like to see the bully breed community on National TV doing interviews.
What separates Deep Kountry Kennels from the competition?
When it comes to Deep Kountry Kennels, there is no competition. Competition is one of the many reasons of why the bully breed community is so divided. We don’t have to compete with one another if we would support each other. If I don’t have what a person is looking for, then I would refer them to a highly recommended breeder.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
My other hobbies are taking the dogs to the drag strip to socialize with people who want to know about the breed, or overcome their fear. I also enjoy bodybuilding, and going to bodybuilding competitions.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
Bully Girl Magazine is very informative, and has great articles. I am very fortunate and grateful to be interviewed by them. I want to personally thank BGM for this opportunity to have Deep Kountry Kennels featured in their magazine.
