Since 1990, all the positive characteristics of the the American Bully’s ancestry were bred forward including loyalty, drive and stability with humans; while traits of aggression and gameness were bred out. What sets this breed apart from all others is the physical appearance like heavier bone, muscular structure and a “Bullier” frame. The new Bully is bred to be the ultimate companion. The main agenda of the ABKC is to bring dog owners together for their love of the breed and to help break down negative stereotypes of both the breed and people.
If you own a bully that you believe is “ready for the show ring”, listed below are the ABKC’s recent changes in show requirements:
The point requirement for champion status remains currently at 150 points, as well as 2 majors. ABKC Complete Show Class Info & Points Requirements
Currently it is mandatory that, in order to enter shows, you must present a copy of your ABKC paperwork or Bully ID card. If not, you will be required to purchase a temporary ticket. This ensures proper dogs and ages are entering ABKC shows.
Also, no muzzles, spike collars, wide collars, prong collars, collars with dog or kennel names or chain leashes are permitted in the show ring. You will have to show your dog(s) in a show lead and show choker.
When purchasing a temporary ticket at a show, please make sure to register your dog within ten (10) days to avoid forfeiting your points. Instructions are printed on the back of the purchased ticket.
The ABKC is also now doing DNA verification.
The ABKC is also now awarding Junior Handler points.
▪ Before entering the show ring make sure that your dog is cleaned and groomed for the event. The Judges do consider the hygiene of the dog as well as handling. All dog owners/handlers are required to clean up after their dogs at events, failure to do so can result in expulsion from events and possible suspension from future events.
