State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.
My name is Amy Woodiwiss, founder of GatorBack Kennels LLC. You can find us in Phoenix, AZ.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
We breed American Bully XL style dogs. I fell in love with the classic American Pit Bull Terrier when I was a kid, as we always had them growing up. I never understood the negative stigma that was associated with the breed until I got older. That is one reason I am always advocating for the breed.
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
The health and welfare of the dog should always be the first responsibility of a great breeder. Additionally, breeding to better the breed is of the utmost importance. What I mean by that is, breeding for temperament versus color and also to correct flaws, because again the health and welfare of these animals is the most important thing.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
We feed our dogs Victor Nutro Pro throughout the year.
What is your favorite bloodline?
I’m more into the old school stuff like Gaff, De La Cruz and OFRN.
Do you currently show any of your dogs?
Yes! We show our male Kamo, and we are currently working with our newest addition, Vida.
What advice does GatorBack Kennels LLC have for any upcoming breeders?
Don’t be selfish. Show love to every style of bully. Calculate, and do your research. Trust your gut. Lastly, one more cliche, be patient.
What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
Failure! Plan to fail.
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
Never stop, and never give up. Find a new perspective and keep grinding. Work, work, work and more work.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
Pam Carter, of Gaff Kennel. This is one of the most correct breeds, ahead of its time. Also, Tony and Gary Moore of Greyline Pitbulls.
Tell us about one of GatorBack Kennels LLC main goals for the year 2020.
Getting Rosi’s first litter on the ground is the main goal. We want to continue to grow our business, and drive more of our services on our menu like training, transport and so much more.
Describe how you would want things in the bully breed Community to be 10 years from now.
More knowledgeable, with people breeding for the right reasons. This is not a get rich quick scheme. The health and temperament of these dogs needs to stay intact.
What separates GatorBack Kennels LLC from the competition?
Our variety of services. We sell luxury pet supplies. Our goal isn’t to have the biggest bully out there. We want our dogs to be functional, highly driven, family pets that hover between 85 to 120lbs.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
We enjoy classic cars, 4 Wheeling, shooting, camping and traveling.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
I like how you advocate for the breed, highlighting women and family values in the Bully community.
