State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.
My name is Roxanne of Grand Coven Bullies. My husband Juan and I run our kennel out of sunny Corona, California!
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
We work with none other than the XL American Bully. As a child I grew up with all kinds of animals big and small, but there was only one who irrevocably captured my heart! That was of course, the great American Pit Bull Terrier. The rest is history. The second I discovered that same spirit, loving disposition, intelligence and powerful muscle structure in the American Bully, I knew I was hooked!
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
I strongly believe a responsible breeder is someone who puts the well being of their pack above all else. Responsible breeders take the responsibility to ensure his/her breeding stock is healthy and temperamentally/physically sound. They will never sacrifice such things to make a dollar!
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
We currently feed our pack FROMM Kibble. We also like to experiment and try to improve wherever we can, always looking for the next best thing.
What is your favorite bloodline?
A couple of my favorite bloodlines would have to include Razors Edge and RBG. One must respect all the “OG” bloodlines that started it all since, of course, a great deal of bullies today are a result of a lovely concoction of these old school and new school bloodlines.
Does Grand Coven Bullies currently show any dogs?
We do not show our dogs as of yet, but we are hoping to get ourselves in the ring very soon!
What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?
I feel it should be common knowledge to always put the health, temperament, and happiness of your pack at the top of your checklist! But I strongly believe the lack of humility and kindness has the ability to make or break you. Stay humble, have patience, and be kind to your supporters. No one wants to do business with a hubristic, unkind individual!
What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
I believe the division that results from competition is the most difficult!
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
In my humble opinion, I think the advancement of this breed would greatly benefit from more breeders working together, as opposed to trying to outdo one another and talking down to others.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
I do not look up to any one person in particular, rather anyone who runs their yard with passion, integrity, and a thirst for knowledge!
Tell us about one of Grand Coven Bullies main goals for the year 2020.
The absolute goal for 2020 is to accomplish our first GCB breeding! We anticipate our first litter to hit the ground late in the year, and we will see how our girl Maiden produces. From there, we are excited to proudly take our first steps toward the advancement of Grand Coven Bullies!
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
I’d really love to see less negativity and more breeders working together toward the betterment of the breed. Also, it would be awesome to see a significant increase in “bullier” looking dogs in the XL game!
What separates Grand Coven Bullies from the competition?
I think what truly sets us apart from most other kennels, is the amount of passion and love we hold for our bullies and this breed. In addition, we hold our customer service to the highest standard. Coven member or not, your questions and concerns will never go unnoticed. Grand Coven Bullies is all about peace, love, and respect!
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
Aside from my family, there are not many things that interest me more than my bullies! But if there is one thing that we evidently love just as much, it’s all things Metal!
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
Bully Girl Magazine is an excellent source of information, whether you’re a seasoned breeder or you’re just getting started. Additionally, I love that it serves as a great platform for new breeders to gain exposure, which can be difficult! Thank you so much Bully Girl Magazine for the opportunity! We are forever grateful!
