Bully Girl Magazine had a chance to interview Jesse Colon, founder of The Bully Firm. Jesse Colon is a responsible American Bully Breeder, who produces show quality dogs, and actively participates in the American Bully Community. Here is what he had to say:
State your name, and where your kennel is located.
My name is Jesse James Colon and The Bully Firm is located in Lebanon, PA.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
It all started with American Bullies years ago, and now I have a stud of each bully breed. Eleven years ago, I got my first American Bully, Capone. The first year I had him, I went to my first show, and the rest is history.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
My bully’s diet consists of a raw blend, mixed with kibble, and salmon oil.
Do you have any upcoming breedings that you would like our readers to know about?
I personally have no in house breedings coming up, but I do have a few breedings outside of The Bully Firm, with Cali Kid.
What is your favorite bloodline?
My favorite bloodlines are Kurupt blood, G2, Dax, and Homie blood.
Do you currently show, any of your dogs?
I currently do not show any of my dogs because they’re already champed, or grand champed out. I’m focusing more on helping other people train and handle their dogs.
What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?
First, educate yourself about the breed. Second, don’t follow the hype. Third, breed for yourself, not for anyone else.
What is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
Breeding for the breed, and not the money.
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
By remembering what this breed is about, and not following the hype.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
I don’t really look up to anyone anymore but there are people who have influenced me in the past years.
Looking back at 2014, tell us about one of your most memorable moments in the bully game.
Honestly, nothing because I took a break with my dogs after Cali Kid became a national winner in the extreme class in 2013.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully Commuity, to be 10 years from now.
I would like to see American Bully’s have a permanent breed type.
What separates your kennel from the competition?
Well, right now my kennel is like “the stud factory” where I have some of the best representation of each breed.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
Photography and cars, which I’ve done way before dogs.
What motto do you live by?
“It is what it is.”
What do you think of Bully Girl magazine?
Bully Girl Magazine is one of the biggest magazines that supports the breed. They are always at every show, doing videos, taking pictures, and selling some of the hottest apparel!
