Tell our readers a little bit about yourself.
We are Jimmy Torres and Christina Morga, of Woodlawn Bullies. You can find us in Illinois.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
We breed standard and pocket American Bullies. We’ve always had dogs, but they were Pit Bull’s.We went with the American Bully because of there temperament. The American Bully is just an all around safer dog.
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
Responsible breeders should follow the breeders code of ethics. At the end of the day, it’s about preserving the breed. The goal is to make sure these dogs stay functional family companions.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
We keep it basic. We feed kibble, wet food, and occasional rice. Our dogs are also are on a supplemental red cell.
What is Woodlawn Bullies favorite bloodline?
My favorite bloodlines are Razors Edge and Lil Cairo.
Do you currently show any of your dogs?
We’ve been to a few bully shows, but did not compete. We are hoping to start competing in 2020.
What advice does Woodlawn Bullies have for any upcoming breeders?
Our advice to upcoming breeders would be that it’s a lifestyle. You have to be committed to your dogs and yourself to become a proud dog breeder.
What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
The most difficult thing is that the American bully breed gets stereotyped as a Pit Bull in most cases. It’s also difficult that in some eyes is not a bully because it’s not an exotic.
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
We need more representation of each breed. We love all the bully breeds.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
Just to name a few:
- Jorge Dragoon(Str8up Bully) owner of champion(Bonnie and Clyde) Jorge is a friend and a mentor.
- Israel Vargas (Conflict Bullies)
- Killinois Kennels (Dayton)
- Duval Bullies (Tone Roldan)
- Phokingstyle Bullies
The bully game is strong with social media. There are a lot of down to earth people that inspire us in the bully community, and they don’t even know it.
Tell us about one of Woodlawn Bullies main goals for the year 2020.
One of our main goals is to start competing and getting our dogs recognized.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
In ten years we would like for every bully breed to stay consistent, prosper and be recognized as its own breed.
What separates Woodlawn Bullies from the competition?
I would like to think that I’m producting all around dogs. I strive for family companions that can still work. We are not in competition. We tip our cap to everyone showing their dogs.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
My other hobbies and interests are helping coach my son in sports. I’m also an avid fishermen.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
We love and respect Bully Girl Magazine, and what you are doing for the breed. Bully Girl is bringing acknowledgment and understanding to the breed.
