It’s 90+ degree’s outside, and you feel like you’re going to pass out. Well just imagine how your dog feels. Bully Breed dogs, and all dogs for that matter, need to be protected for the harsh summer temperatures. Below are some helpful tips that Bully Girl Magazine recommends, to help you keep bully breed dog comfortable this summer.

  1. Before the Summer officially rolls in, have your dog checked by your local vet, to make sure he/she is healthy. This will avoid compounding pre-existing problems with the harsh summer weather.
  2. Always make sure cool, fresh water is available for your dog, as the high temperatures can lead to dehydration.
  3. Avoid long walks on the streets. Asphalt, and sand can get pretty hot, and will burn your dogs paws. If you must walk your dog, try to go for walks early in the morning or later in the afternoon, after the sun has gone down.
  4. If you are in the yard with your dog, make sure that you provide a shaded area for him/her to cool off in. A dog house does is not a cool off zone, as they trap heat, and will bake your dog.
  5. Never leave your dog in the car for extensive amounts of time. If you have errands to run, and are unsure how long you will be, then leave your dog home. Way too many dogs are lost each year due to heat stroke, from being left in the car by their owner.
  6. If you treat your lawn with any chemicals, keep your dog off the law for 24- hours, depending on the chemicals that you use. Most lawn care products are hazardous to dogs, and you will end up with an expensive vet bill on your hands or worse, you will lose your dog.
