State your name, and where Ram Kennels is located.
My name is Robert C. Johnson Jr. founder of Ram Kennels. You can find us in Sicklerville, NJ.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
American Pitbull Terriers and American Bullies are my breed of choice. I was inspired by the breed back when I was a teenager, honestly. I grew up with Rottweilers and German Shepherds. One day a friend of my Dads had one and I loved the attitude of the dog. The breed fits me and my personality. The loyalty of the breed has always intrigued me. I also love the temperament and willingness to work.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
The main diet of my dogs is Victor Hi Energy, but during the summer months I will cut back on the Victor and add some raw into their diet.
What is your favorite bloodline?
Honestly that’s a hard question to answer. I started out with Gaff and Sierra blood, and I slowly transitioned to Razors Edge. My yard right now is heavy Razors Edge, with a twist of Gaff and Gotti.
Do you currently show, any of your dogs?
Currently I’m taking a break from showing. However, I do have 3 ABKC champions.
What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?
The best advice I can give a person that is up and coming is be humble and stay true to yourself. Also do good business with folks.
What do you think, is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
PRIDE.
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
The only way for someone to overcome pride is to HUMBLE yourself and never forget how you started. A lot of breeders lose focus and become big headed and then pride gets in the way. Stay humble and true to yourself is the best way to be successful in this world.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
Honestly I’m going to say my good friend Chris Moore from Bulky Built Bulldogs. We are friends who became family. I’ve known Chris for about 13 years now and he has always kept it 100 and stood is ground on what he believes. He has always stayed true to his own breeding program, never changing his vision.
Tell us about one of Ram Kennels main goals going into the year 2018.
Honestly I have the same goal every year. That is to keep producing functional healthy dogs and helping educate as many people as I can on the breed.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully Community, to be 10 years from now.
I would want the community to be more united and not as divided as it is. There should be more people working together and perfecting the breed, not working against each other.
What separates Ram Kennels from the competition?
I don’t have any competition. I breed for me and no one else. I’ve never been the one to worry about what others are doing or what they have. Ram Kennels has been around since 2002 because I stay in my own lane.
In your own words, what is an Exotic Bully?
An exotic bully to me is a new wave and breed that folks are into. To me it’s more of a designer breed.
What is your opinion on the new exotic breed movement?
It’s still new but just like anything else, it’s still in the early phases. I think once all the smoke clears the exotic movement will be something.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
My other interest are different type of fresh water fish. I have a 125 gallon and 75 gallon tank now with a array of different exotic fresh water fish. Also my family. That is what takes up most of my life and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
Bully Girl Magazine is one of the best bully breed magazines out, period. They are very informative on what’s going on inside the community, and always there for the bully breed. If folks don’t know about the magazine they are missing out!
