State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.
My name is Taylor Knight of Knight Time Bullies located in Huntsville, Alabama.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
I breed pocket, standard, and XL American Bullies. I was first interested in Pits, (8 years ago) and didn’t really know much about dogs. My friend had a Lab-Pit mix, and was one of the best looking dogs that I’ve seen. It was a good blend of both of the breeds of dogs.
So that influenced me to do some research. While doing the research I came across and discovered for myself, the American Bully. Dogs like Dax and Pure Platinum really caught my eye. They were gorgeous dogs. I wanted to create something similar to them.
What is your favorite bloodline?
My favorite bloodlines are Gottiline and Razors Edge.
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
Cleanliness, health, exercise, diet, and medication. Knowing your dogs flaws and strengths. Taking time to plan things out. Making sure the puppies go to good homes. Giving each dog enough attention everyday. Being a stand up person. Lastly, truly caring about the dogs and caring for them in the best way possible.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
My bullies just eat high quality kibble. No fancy supplements or tricks, just good food. All take Trifexis every month, which is a 3 in one heartwormer, dewormer, and flea/tick preventitive. Any breeding females do not take Trifexis. On the weekends, I’ll feed raw chicken leg quarters to only the dogs that are on Trifexis.
How many times a day do you feed your dogs?
I fill up as many bowls as I have dogs with kibble each morning. They eat however much they want and there is usually some left over at the end of the day. I usually take a dog to work with me, so I pack a doggy lunch aka kibble in a ziplock bag. I also fill up their water bowls with fresh water multiple times per day, after dumping out the old water and cleaning the bowl.
How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?
I have a big backyard which helps a lot. They get to run around and play freely. I have a spring pole on one of the trees that they love to play on. They love chasing after my airsoft gun. I shoot from one corner of the yard to the other. They chase after the sound. I also use a flirt pole. We also go on runs, walks, and hikes when the weather is not too hot or cold.
Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from Knight Time Bullies from start to finish.
First we do a background check on the individual wanting to buy a puppy and see if they check out okay. We also check their social media, the way they talk/communicate, and energy ect… I ask them what they are interested in. Then ask for a deposit to lock in the puppy as their own.
Once that deposit is placed, I make a post saying this particular puppy is now no longer available and is in the process of being adopted. Then the full amount has to be paid in full before pickup, during pickup, or before delivery process starts. During all this, I will go over everything the pup may need, how to care for it, feeding tips and tricks, and any other information that might be beneficial to customers at any time for life.
Does Knight Time Bullies currently show any dogs?
Currently, I do not show any of my bullies. I do have a Champion, Orca, off my first breeding with Gand Champion Shamrock x Luna aka Grand Champion Tazz sister. I hired Logan Jones, my family of Amen Bullies, to show Orca for me.
What advice does Knight Time Bullies have for any upcoming breeders?
To the upcoming breeders, try to stay true to yourself. Don’t chase the hype. Recognize what people want and are willing to pay for. Know what price anchoring is, and don’t believe most of what you hear. Get a mentor that can help you. Keep to yourself, and don’t share everything with the world.
What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
The adversity and politics bandwagon. Not everyone is going to support you or like you. They will probably find you as a threat, because you are now their competition. Whether they are your “friend” or not, be careful what you tell people.
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
Stay to yourself and don’t lie to yourself. Don’t bash people. Even if you feel like it needs to be done. You’ll just get other people against you, so stay positive. When it comes down to it, people just want to see your nice dogs or have one. They do not want to see drama.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
I look up to Alex Ferraro. From what I know about Alex, he is a stand up guy, great judge, professional, and proven high quality breeder.
Tell us about one of Knight Time Bullies main goals for the year 2020.
Our main goal is to grow and produce solid healthy pups. I also want to invest more into the dogs, and market Knight Time Bullies to reach more people.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
Ten years from now, I would like to see healthy, functional, athletic bullies with no breathing problems. I would love to see a lure or agility course at all shows and more organization overall. Hopefully people will stop lying about statistics, and being fake in general. We need more transparency. Lastly, I want to see dogs being dogs instead of trophies.
What separates Knight Time Bullies from the competition?
All my dogs are inside dogs that roam around freely. I treat my dogs as if they were my children. I have bigger dogs than most kennels. Also, I graduated from college with honors, and do this as a hobby and love for the breed.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
I like baseball and was a pitcher in college. My family has a glass business that was established in 1952. I would love to grow and maintain that business. Mostly, I am a homebody, so I always find things to do around the house. Also, I play some video games. However, I mainly enjoy doing dog stuff.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
I think Bully Girl Magazine is a quality bully magazine. It’s a positive publication, with some of the best dogs and breeders from around the world. Bully Girl gives people insight to the people behind the dogs that they see, and helps people to discover new kennels.
