State your name , kennel, and where your kennel is located.
My name is Nathaniel Elcock, founder of Amtrac Bullies, a small family owned kennel in Phoenix, Arizona.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
We breed pocket and standard American Bullies. We used to breed XL Bullies also. I started breeding colby and carver bloodline Pit Bull’s when i was young, and in 2003 I was introduced to the American Bully. I instantly fell in love with this style of dog. It was basically a thicker, more massive version of the Pit Bull.
What is your favorite bloodline?
My favorite bloodline is Remyline and Dax blood. This is because when you put them together the right way you get some awesome looking bullies.
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
A responsible dog breeder should be a person that is easily liked and easy to talk to. Responsible breeders should be very knowledgeable about what he or she breeds healthwise, bloodline and history. They should also be able to screen the people who they sell their dogs to and make sure the pups are going to a safe home.
Responsible breeders should also be able to know and recognize temperament differences in litters. Breeding to the standard, to make the breed better, is also important. Last but not least, responsible breeders should have a goal or a vision of the dog they are trying to create.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
I feed my dogs a mixture of raw beef and kibble. I also give them extra supplements and vitamins to keep them healthy and strong, especially for my females.
How many times a day do you feed your dogs?
We feed our dogs 2 to 3 times a day, and they get as much clean water to drink as they need.
How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?
We love to take our dogs on long walks and open fields to run. Also, I let them hit the spring pole and even take a swim every now and then.
Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from your kennel, from start to finish? First thing we do is ask the individual what exactly what they are looking for in a pup. Also, we would like to know what their intentions with the pup.
Then we advise them to make sure they have the proper space to house the pup. After that, we make them sign a contract and put a deposit down, which is non-refundable, but it is transferable. The customer has up until 8 to 9 weeks to finish paying for the pup.
At that point they are ready to come home. If the customer wants the dog’s ears cropped, we can do that for an extra fee, but we leave that up to the customer. We can also personally deliver the pup, or ship the pup to you for an extra fee.
Does Amtrac Bullies currently show any dogs?
We breed show quality bulls over here at Amtrac Bullies. So yes, we show our dogs. Currently, we are working with our new female, Kash Doll, to champ her out by the time she turns a year old.
What advice does Amtrac Bullies have for any upcoming breeders?
Make sure you are in this for all the right reasons. There are a lot of ups and downs in this game. Talk to a breeder that breeds the type of dogs you are into. Ask them to mentor you and show you the ropes, or just study for yourself. Don’t let other people stop or detour you from your vision. Stay focused and set goals.
What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
The most difficult thing for all of us breeders in this game, is overcoming the setbacks and the sacrifices that must be made at times. Also the bad breeders that are in it for the money. A lot of times the dog’s heath is sacrificed for a quick buck. Lastly, really getting the world to recognize the American Bully on a bigger stage.
How do you think we can overcome this thing?
Being there to support new breeders with knowledge on how to handle setbacks. Also, by breeding to the standard and having great confirmation. Last but not least, teaching these backyard breeders that breed flaw after flaw.
We need to help them understand that they are hurting the breed. Basically, we can do this through knowledge and information, and sticking to the standard.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
I really dont lookup to anyone in the bully game. However, I have the utmost respect for a lot of breeders, such as my boy Ronnie Phillips, from Prison Blue Bullies. Also, Carlos from Blew Magic Bulls, out of Tucson. Last but not least, Robert Lee, from The Bully Market. They all represent the game the right way.
Tell us about one of Amtrac Bullies main goals for the year 2020?
One of our main goals is to champ out our up and coming female Kash Doll, and put up our new kennels.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed community, to be in 10 years?
I would love to see the bully community together with no hating. We should all be able to take constructive advice. I would also love to see bigger shows. Maybe even one day being on live tv, showcasing our beautiful breed, the American Bully.
What separates Amtrac Bullies from the competition?
We breed athletic bully style dogs that will not only look good and perform well in the ring, but they will be able to protect your home also. So you get the best of both worlds. You get the flash, the muscle and performance in the ring. Also, we make you feel like family after dealing with us.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
I love cars, cooking and going to the gun range to sharpen my shooting skills, along with my family. I also enjoy coaching youth football.
What do you think about Bully Girl Magazine?
I think Bully Girl Magazine is dope. Bully Girl is a place where a person like myself can keep up with all the things going on in the bully world. What is better than having content that brings women and dogs together. Again the best of both worlds, like our kennel. Thank you for doing this interview with us. We greatly appreciate you guys for showing us love.
