Built2WinBullyz: Pocket and Standard American Bully Breeder | North Carolina

Built2WinBullyz

Tell our readers a little bit about yourself.
My name is Tyler Squirewell. I am the owner of Built2WinBullyz, located in Raleigh, NC.

What type of dogs do you breed?
I breed pocket and standard American Bullies. Growing up owning American Pit Bull Terriers, I have always been infatuated with the way they look. Just seeing the difference in structure, temperament, and them having that “pitbull on steroids” look, made me realize that this was the breed for me.

What is your favorite bloodline?
I don’t necessarily have a favorite bloodline. There is blood out there that I’m very fond of, but we are predominantly Razors Edge, Gotti, Remy, and G-Line.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
The characteristics of a responsible dog breeder should always be to put the dogs first. Make sure the well-being of the dogs are the main priority. A responsible dog breeder breeds to better their program and the breed, not to make a quick dollar. They follow ABKC guidelines and make sure all the paperwork is official.

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
I keep my dogs on a basic kibble and raw diet. I go back and forth between Valu-pak and Sportsmix Wholesome. For RAW, we use ground beef, chicken quarters, liver, carrots, apples, broccoli, eggs, salmon oil, coconut oil, oats and origins.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?
I feed my dogs twice a day. Once in the morning after I work them out, and later in the day before bed.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?
We use the flirt and spring pole everyday. All of my dogs have drive and love to work, so keeping them in shape isn’t hard at all.

What advice does Built2WinBullyz have for any upcoming breeders?
If you’re looking to come into this game and make tons of money, then cut your losses now and just love your dog. There are breeders out here who are truly passionate about bettering the breed, and could care less about making money.

I’m not saying that I’m the best breeder, but I’m still learning. I’m soaking up as much as I can and doing things the right way at my own expense. My goal is to make the best standard of the American bully that I can. I’ve made nowhere near the money I spend on the dogs. Honestly, I’m not bothered by it.

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
Staying true to their vision, and overcoming the politics. People in our community tend to always follow the new trend.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?
Having a plan or vision from the start, and seeing it through until you have what you envision yourself having/doing. Ignore the politics with tunnel vision, and only worry about what you can control, which is your program.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
I look up to any responsible breeder that’s bettering our community and using correct breeding techniques. Let’s push our breed in the direction it needs to be in the future.

Tell us about one of Built2WinBullyz main goals for the year 2020.
My main goals are to keep all my dogs healthy, produce clean correct bulls, and prepare my dogs for the show ring come 2021.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
Ten years from now I would love to see our breed accepted by the AKC. Also, to actually have a complete breed standard that our growing community can go by. One specific look with traits, and colors.

What separates Built2WinBullyz from the competition?
What separates us is that we started from out of the mud. We jumped into this game a year ago with a plan and stuck to it. At Built2Win Bullyz we breed for consistency, and represent our name. When called upon we show up and show out. A lot of kennels out there have great looking dogs with these amazing peds, but rarely see consistency in their program. We produce muscled up, clean, correct, fully functional bulls here that are Built2Win Bullyz.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
Working out, grilling, going to the lake, and watching or reading something about dogs.

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
I think Bully Girl Magazine is an amazing platform for breeders and people in the bully community. Bully Girl helps us all to stay connected. Truly one of a kind.
