State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.
My name is Andrea, and my partner’s name is Erik. We own Fancy Frenchies, LLC (@flfancyfrenchies). You can find us in Tampa, FL.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
We breed French Bulldogs. We were inspired to breed Frenchies, because they are just the best dog out there in our opinion. They are very loyal, entertaining dogs, which makes them great companions. I completely understand why they are nicknamed clown dogs, because they truly make you laugh and smile. They are also small dogs, so you can bring them almost anywhere. Everyone should have at least one Frenchie in their family!
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
A responsible breeder must love dogs, and care about the integrity of the breed. Responsible breeders also need to ensure that they have enough time. Being a breeder is a full-time job and is really time consuming. I don’t think people realize the amount of work it takes to breed dogs, especially French Bulldogs.
Also, only take on what you can handle. If you take on too much, your dogs won’t get the love and care they deserve. At Fancy Frenchies, we also like to test their genetics and DNA to ensure they are suitable for breeding.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
For my dogs, I have found the Natural Balance Limited Ingredient diet has worked the best for them. We give them fish formula in the summer, and lamb formula in the winter. They always get fresh bottled water, and their treats must be healthy.
What is your favorite bloodline?
Our favorite bloodline has to be Mr.Grinch from Bayline Bullies, and Dr.Seuss from OCK Bullyranch. They are both amazing dogs and have really created a name for themselves within the Frenchie community.
Do you currently show, any of your dogs?
Currently we don’t show any of our dogs. However, we do like to attend local bully shows to network, support the community, and promote our dogs. Fancy Frenchies has plans to show our dogs this year, and hopefully travel to some out of state shows.
What advice does Fancy Frenchies, LLC have for any upcoming breeders?
My advice would be to start your kennel with quality dogs. It is very important to find a veterinarian that you can trust, who specializes in your breed of dog. You must also have a lot of patience. Breeding dogs isn’t easy, and doesn’t happen overnight. It is very time consuming. However, all the hard work pays off once you deliver the puppy to their new loving family.
What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
The most difficult thing to overcome is worrying about the puppies once you have sold them. You put so much love and time into the puppies, that you want the new owners to treat and spoil them like you have. A lot of our puppies are sold out of state, so it’s nice when they send us updated photos of our past puppies.
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
I don’t think it is something you will ever overcome. As a dog lover, I always think about my past puppies. The only thing I can do is ask the buyer a lot of questions to make sure they are ready for this breed before they purchase the puppy. We also provide them with a puppy care package. It comes with things they might need when getting a new puppy. They also get a folder with all sorts of useful information to help them become successful puppy owners. Our customers also have all of our contact info, and we are always there to help in any way that we can.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
One of the kennels we look up to is SD Bullies. They really handle everything very professionally. I also like how SD Bullies has created their own brand and made a name for themselves within the Frenchie community. We also look up to Bullseye French Bulldogs and Bayline Bullies, because they produce dogs with amazing structure, and also have created great brands.
Tell us about one of Fancy Frenchies, LLC main goals for the year 2019.
Our main goal for 2019 is to of course produce more happy and healthy puppies that change people’s lives. We are a newer kennel, so another goal for this year is to really push and promote our brand.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
In the French Bulldog community, there are a lot of different colors. I would like to see what they consider “fad colors” to be accepted in the AKC. My dogs are AKC registered, but since they are blue, merle, and chocolate their color isn’t recognized. Some groups and competitions won’t allow them just because of their color. I hope in the future all colors will be recognized by the AKC. A Frenchie is a Frenchie regardless of color. I would also like to see breeders come together and support each other more. There’s room for everyone. You don’t have to bash other kennels to make yours look better.
What separates Fancy Frenchies, LLC from the competition?
What separates us is that we don’t breed your regular Frenchie. We breed very exotic and rare Frenchies, with beautiful colors, nice structure, and of course that iconic squishy face with bat ears. Our dogs are top notch and we take a lot of pride in them, and in our brand. For us it’s more about the love and passion for our dogs. We put our all into everything we do, and that shows when working with us.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
Being in Florida, we love going to the beach. We are Tampa Bay Buccaneer fans, and like to skateboard. We also love exploring our city and taking photos of our dogs.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
I think Bully Girl Magazine is amazing! I love that the magazine is showcasing more and more French Bulldogs! Bully Girl Magazine has great branding, and I respect their longevity in the bully community!
