State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.
We are Nina Hasse and Dalton Taylor, of Texas Exotic Bully Kennel. You can find us in San Antonio, Texas.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
We have American Bullies, pocket size. I have always had a soft spot for bullies. When the opportunity came up to get one I couldn’t pass it up!
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
A responsible dog breeder makes sure the dogs are healthy and happy. Female dogs should get enough time to heal after each breeding, and studs should get plenty of exercise. Being a responsible breeder also means that the puppies you produce are going to a safe home. I think that’s very important. Especially when dealing with the bully breed.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
It took almost a year to find a dog food that both dogs would eat. We finally went with Blue Buffalo. When we want to bulk Hodge up, we will add chicken, turkey, or powdered peanut butter.
What is your favorite bloodline?
That would have to be Miagi, hands down! I like all bloodlines, but Miagi will always be my favorite!
Does Texas Exotic Bully Kennel currently show any dogs?
I am definitely working on getting Hodge into shows. By the end of the summer, I want to be in at least one show. Prada may make an appearance every now and then, but definitely keep an out for Hodge winning shows here in Texas.
What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?
Make sure you do your research on the breed. Find out how much money and time it will take to be successful with the breed of your choice. Lastly, it definitely helps to get your dog registered and entered in shows.
What do you think, is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
Personally it was hard to get people interested in Hodge as a stud. It seemed like no one wanted to breed with him. However, everything takes time and patience. We are finally seeing people interested in breeding with Hodge. With Prada, it seemed like it took forever for her to go into to heat, and be ready for her first litter. Everything happens with time.
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
Patience! Your stud isn’t going to be in high demand over night. Also, your female isn’t going to be in heat when ever it’s convenient for you. Just keep on working hard and everything will fall into place.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
The owners of Texas Size Bullies. They are producing amazing dogs and they are keeping their dogs happy and healthy!
Tell us about one of the main goals this year for Texas Exotic Bully Kennel.
I want Hodge to be in several shows by the end of the year, and at least placing in two shows. Our goal for Prada, was for her to have a litter, and that’s going to happen real soon!
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
I want the bully breed community to produce well functioning, healthy dogs. Sadly, I see a lot of puppies with health issues trying to be passed as the next big thing by uneducated breeders. This is a proud, strong, and powerful breed. As breeders, it should be our responsibility to keep it that way.
What separates Texas Exotic Bully Kennel from the competition?
Honestly, it’s Hodge that makes us stand out. There are only a handful of studs in San Antonio with his markings, and ever fewer with his ashy color. He definitely makes people stop and stare when ever he’s out.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
We are looking forward to making dog shows our new hobby. Prada and Dalton’s hobby is mainly relaxing around the house. Meanwhile, me and Hodge like to go on very long walks. I also enjoy taking him to his doggy classes where he made student of the month.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
I think Bully Girl Magazine is amazing! With our kennel still being in the early stages of dog breeding and bully shows, Bully Girl is a great place for me to learn more! It’s very helpful to see what other breeders are doing, what you shouldn’t do, etc. I also enjoy seeing fellow women in the bully game thriving and killing it with their dogs!
