TrophyRoom Kennels: XL Bully Breeder | Stockton, California

TrophyRoom Kennels

Tell our readers a little bit about yourself.
My name is Hector Serrano, of TrophyRoom Kennels. TrophyRoom Kennels is located in Stockton, CA.

What type of dogs do you breed?
I breed XL American Bullies. I have always wanted a Pit Bull. However, my mom was always afraid of them and would never let me have one. I always said once I had my own house, I was going to buy a Pit Bull. XL American Bullies were something I had never heard of up until about 3 years ago.

My younger brother followed Bossy Kennels on Instagram. He kept showing me pictures of their dogs. Two pups really caught my eye (Staxx and Super Bowl). I ended up buying a pup from Super Bowl’s first litter, and absolutely fell in love with the breed.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
Responsible dog breeders put their dogs first! Responsible dog breeding is expensive and very time consuming. If someone is in this just for the money, they are in for a rude awakening! They won’t last very long. A responsible dog breeder should keep their dogs on a proper diet, and make sure they get plenty of exercise. Also, all dogs should be kept up-to-date on all shots and vaccines. Do not take any shortcuts for the breeding’s. Most of all, make sure the dogs get all the love and attention they need!

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
I keep my dogs pretty active, so I like to have them on a high protein diet. Currently, I like to feed my dogs Victor High Pro, Victor Nutra Pro, and Victor Ultra Pro. I also mix in raw meats, eggs (with shell), and veggies. Usually topping it off with Muscle Bully products.

What is your favorite bloodline?
I don’t think they are considered their own bloodline just yet, but Bossy is the best in my opinion.

Do you currently show any of your dogs?
I do not currently show any of my dogs in the ring. However, that’s something that I am very interested in doing.

What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?
Well, I am an upcoming breeder myself. However I would tell others do not get into this for the money. You will take plenty of losses before your actually start making a profit. Try to better the breed, don’t get in this for your personal greed.

What do you think, is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
I think the hardest thing is making a name for yourself. That comes with time, networking, and breeding the right way.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?
By building relationships with respected and well known breeders. I’ve been extremely lucky to have connected with some respected breeders that have taught me so much! Most of them I’ve never done any formal business with. I would just DM them or comment on their posts, not thinking they would actually write back.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
I really look up to the Bossy Kennels team. They have always been so helpful. I also really look up to Primeyard Bullies, Royal Blueprint bullies, Mega Built Bullies, and Kings and Queens Bullies, to name a few other kennels.

Tell us about one of your main goals for the year 2019.
The goal is to make a name for myself in 2019. I have some big plans for my 2 females. I’m hoping they play out.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
I’d like to see the Merle and Merle tri dogs perfected by then. I see a lot of Merle breeding’s done irresponsibly. The Merle look might be hot and trendy right now. However, I see too many Merle breeding’s being done just for the money.

What separates your kennel from the competition?
To be honest, right now my kennel isn’t even in the competition. We are still so new to this. We are just getting started. I think what separates me from other new comers, is I know that I don’t know it all. However, I’m not afraid to ask other breeders for answers and advice. I’m taking my time to ensure I do this the right way, even if that cost me time and money. It’s so easy to ruin your name and earn a bad reputation with irresponsible breeding practices.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
Sports and shoes are my biggest interest. Before I started spending all my money on my dogs, I would collect basketball shoes. I still collect them, just at a much slower pace, lol. Sports is another huge interest of mine. My TV is always on a sports channel.

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
I think Bully Girl Magazine is awesome! What their company is doing for the breed is great. I’m super excited to see what the future holds. I love your social media and print magazine. The Bully Girl clothing is amazing as well!
