State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.
My name is Anissa, founder of Wild West Bullies. You can find us in Mesa, AZ.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
I breed the American Bully. I grew up with dogs my whole life. However, my boy Remy was my first bully. Remy inspired me to better the breed, and help fight the negative persona they carry. He was the total opposite of aggressive. Remy was the biggest baby ever.
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
A responsible breeder is someone who cares. At the end of the day, these dogs have a heart and lungs just like any human. Dogs feel and connect just like we do. To be responsible you have to believe in what you are doing and put that first, above all.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
At Wild West Bullies, we feed a good balance of kibble and raw. A typical diet in our household lasts about 3-4 times a week, then we switch to raw feeding.
What is your favorite bloodline?
To be honest, I don’t necessarily have a favorite bloodline, as I am still learning the differences still. However, I do know when I see a good looking dog, to make sure he’s got the pedi to back it up.
Do you currently show any of your dogs?
We currently show our girl, Gracie. Gracie has only been in 2 shows, and has placed second both times. We hope to continue showing her, as well as any other dog we own that we feel should be a show dog.
What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?
Don’t lose your vision. I’m still considered new in this. I’ve learned that a lot of people see money and think that’s what it is, and fail to see the big picture. It’s about the breed, bettering yourself as a person and the vision you set for yourself. Be true to yourself, and you shall succeed.
What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
I think personally the most difficult thing to overcome is to be able to take in all the good and bad criticism. What you like, someone else might not. You can’t take that to the heart. You learn something new everyday in this bully game, and you gotta learn to take the knowledge, whether you use it or not.
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
Be true to yourself, and anything that comes your way you will overcome.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
I look up too Marcus from TheBullCo. I’ve been following Marcus’s Instagram for some time now. The fact that he’s honest and very knowledgeable is something inspires me. I’m an honest person, but the knowledge he shares is difficult, and that’s something I like about him.
Tell us about one of Wild West Bullies main goals for the year 2019.
I set goals all year long. Some main goals are really to just get out of my comfort zone, and just put more content out there. I really want to show more behind the scenes here at Wild West Bullies.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
I would love to see more honesty, and a better version of the breed.
What separates Wild West Bullies from the competition?
Honesty, I think a lot of people fail to be honest with what they show and what they say. I think when you’re nice and fair, people will continue to come and listen.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
We travel about 3 times a year. Life is too short to not know what the world looks like.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
I aspire to be as amazing as Bully Girl Magazine. I love that Bully Girl helps others succeed, and bring their dreams to reality.
